Product Review | E.L.F. HD Shimmer Highlighting Powder
Product Review | E.L.F. HD Shimmer Highlighting Powder in Starlight Glow and Sunset Glow ($6, E.L.F. Stores)
Product Details (from E.L.F.'s website): Add a final touch to your makeup look. This high definition shimmering highlighting powder is super lightweight, and leaves you with a photo ready finish in seconds.
E.L.F. is really stepping their game up, not only with their skincare line, but also with their cosmetic line. This was released earlier this year and finally snagged it after I came back from my Cancun vacation as the Mr. took me straight to Ulta and the mall we went to has an E.L.F. store (and Sephora, too, all in one!). I first heard about this product from Heidi Pritchard, from Everyday Heidi on YouTube. She does a lot of affordable makeup products, and E.L.F. is one of her regular favorites.
Packaging wise, this is definitely a step up from their original baked highlighters which were packaged very cheaply (great product though). The packaging for this product is a nice sturdy black plastic with a matte finish and the E.L.F. typography in white. The compact also comes with a mirror. It comes in three different shades, which are good for a variety of skin tones (I recently saw that on Instagram that they are coming out with a 4th shade for deeper skin tones). I only picked up two shades (the other shade was out of stock in store), Starlight Glow (Champagne Pearl) and Sunset Glow (Champagne Bronze Pearl). This is a powder product, however, it is very soft. The texture is slightly similar to the Becca Skin Perfector Pressed Powders. When applied on the face, it has that "wet look", so while it is pigmented (see swatches above), it does not transfer as a "BAM" highlighter look. However, if you build this up (or spray your brush with MAC Fix Plus), it will take your highlighter experience to outer space in no time.
It is definitely always good to have a tester or go in an E.L.F. store, as you can see on the pan, Sunset Glow looks dark in the pan, but it has a more light rose gold pearl shade than a Bronze shade. Either way, this is good for medium skin tones like mine, especially that these highlighters provide a more "wet look" than a high shine one.
Would I repurchase? For $6, yes. I just need them to expand their shade selection to at least ten.
