Product Review | Becca Cosmetics Backlight Priming Filter Primer
Product Review | Becca Cosmetics Backlight Priming Filter ($38, Sephora)
According to the Sephora website, this is makeup primer to help blur imperfections and impart a radiant glow. Backlight Filter Face Primer creates a canvas for your makeup, extending its wear from day to night. Infused with three unique Filtering Luminescent Pearls, each one adds a different drop of diffused light. Blended together, they impart a one-of-a-kind, lightweight, whipped fluid that creates a smooth canvas and acts as an instant filter, while the vitamin E-enriched formula minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Backlighting acts as an instant filter, creating a diffused, soft-focused radiance that allows your complexion to catch light for a glowing look. Infused with Becca’s proprietary blend of crushed pearls, this primer achieves a lit-from-within, healthy-looking effect. It is formulated WITHOUT: Parabens, Sulfates and Phthalates.
It took me a while to get on the bandwagon and buy this product for a couple of reasons. One of them is the price and second most primers primarily extend the wear of my makeup. It is the only reason I wear them as I do not have problematic skin or textured complexion. However, as of late, I have been enjoying trying out higher end primers and it is something new to me as most of my primers are all from the drugstore. I first discovered this primer when I received sample after purchasing the Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop palette (the blush and highlighter palette). I remember I was traveling to Portland and brought it with me. I really enjoyed it then but since I had purchased other beauty products for my birthday, I decided to pass on it.
The packaging is the typical Becca packaging with a glossy dark brown box. The product is housed in a very sleek glass bottle with a pump, which makes it easy to dispense the product. The primer is cream based with very small traces of light particles. It has a soft champagne beige tint. It does have a thick, almost whipped texture but not quite heavy as you would think, it is easily bendable and has a light feel on the skin. It also feels hydrating without the tacky feeling or greasy residue. You can use this on its own if you want just a natural radiant look or mix it with your foundation or use it underneath (as a primer). I use this as intended, as a primer, and it really does give a radiance from within. It is even especially beautiful when paired with a sheer foundation as it allows the light to catch the radiance on the skin. It makes the skin look healthy, glowing and fresh. I have paired this with various foundation textures and it has performed very well. Would I repurchased despite the price tag? Yes.
